What does my Payments card status mean, and why was I asked for more documents?

The Payments card at the top of the Organization page tells you whether you can pay yet, and lists exactly what's still needed if you can't. Because payroll moves money for you, every business is verified before payments go out, and the verification team may ask for an extra document.

Where:

Payroll → Organization → Payments card. With more than one EIN, each EIN has its own card.

What each status means

You see What it means
Ready to pay You're verified. Go ahead and run payroll.
Business review in progress Your details are being verified. The card says "Payments unlock when your business review has been completed. Still needed:" and lists anything left. If it's only waiting on the review, there's nothing for you to do yet.
Final setup steps needed The review is done, but something is left, such as a work location or federal tax setup. The card says "Payments unlock when your setup has been completed. Still needed:" and lists exactly what.
Prior payroll history needed You paid people through another payroll provider earlier this year, so that history needs to come over. If that's not right (for example, a brand-new EIN), contact support and we'll get it cleared.
Importing prior payroll history Your earlier payroll history is being brought over. This can take up to 5 business days.

Extra document requests

The verification team may ask for more documents, for example a certificate of good standing from your state. See PR-16 for what it's called and where to order it in each state. Upload it in Company setup. See PR-04.
