Are state new-hire reports filed for my 1099 contractors?

Yes, in most states. After a contractor's first payment, their state new-hire report is filed for you automatically in 27 states. New York and Connecticut aren't filed automatically yet, so contact support if you pay contractors there.

Where:

Nothing to do in the portal. It happens after a contractor's first payroll.

How it works

  • The report is filed after a contractor's first payment.
  • It's filed under the EIN that paid them. With more than one EIN, each EIN reports its own contractors. See PR-11.

New York and Connecticut

These states' contractor new-hire reports aren't filed automatically yet:

  • New York: contracts over $2,500.
  • Connecticut: contracts of $5,000 or more.

If you pay contractors in either state, email info@tourneydirect.com and we'll help.

Good to know

  • This is about 1099 contractors. For W-2 employees, taxes are withheld and filed for you. See PR-02.
  • Tourney Direct can't give tax or legal advice. Check with your accountant about your own filing requirements.
