How is coach retention calculated, and what does "on pace" mean?

Coach retention is the share of last year's coaches who came back and worked this year. If 40 coaches worked last year and 12 of them worked again this year, retention is 30%. On pace is the same comparison for an event that hasn't happened yet: the share of last year's coaches who have already confirmed. It only becomes retention once the event is over.

How it's counted

  1. "Came" means the coach checked in, or their stipend reached Completed, Pay or Paid.
  2. A coach counts once per year, even if they worked several shifts.
  3. If an event ran as more than one event in a year (for example a Showcase and an Invitational), the year combines them.
  4. Last year means every event of that annual event in the previous year.

On pace vs. retention

On pace usually rises as the event gets closer and more coaches confirm, so it isn't a final number.

Good to know

  • The small orange line next to retention shows the trend across past years.
  • No earlier year means there is no earlier year to compare with yet.
  • Churn is the opposite of retention: 30% retention means 70% of last year's coaches did not come back.
  • Some older years show Data unavailable instead of a number. See RP-04.
